Want List Wednesday – Inaugural Edition

August 3, 2011

In terms of organizing my collection of hockey cards and memorabilia, the past Monday through Sunday may have been some of the most productive I have had in over a decade, if not ever.

Between my wife being away visiting family and the weather being less than suitable for spending many of my non-day-job hours outside, I spent a couple of extra hours each day working on getting the base set singles portion of my collection organized, an area of my collection that had received very little attention for a very long time.

By the time the week was done I had sorted, organized, and boxed up what I estimate to be in the neighbourhood of 50,000 hockey cards.

Every single one of those cards is available for sale and/or trade, just send your need lists to bb_bros@hotmail.com.

This disorganization I had created for myself came as a result two things:

  • opening countless boxes of packs and not doing anything with the singles beyond shoving them in boxes at random; and
  • having also inherited the cards of some family members who had collected as kids, but no longer wanted the cards as adults (some have suggested perhaps I grow up and do the same, but I politely ignore any such suggestions!).

Getting this project accomplished was pretty gratifying, not only because I now know that a portion of my collection that was previously a mess is now completely in order, but also because it has made a huge difference in getting my home office organized, something I definitely did not intend to still be doing five months after moving in to my new place.

An added but not entirely unexpected benefit of going through this process was that I noticed there were a number of base sets that were very close to being complete.  As a result, this Want List Wednesday article was spawned.

My plan is to make Want List Wednesday articles another monthly feature here at the bbbros.ca blog by posting an updated list on the first Wednesday of every month.

The difference between the cards featured in this series and those you see in my Project Progress Report series that is posted on the final Wednesday of each month is that the sets listed below are:

  • not priority collecting ventures;
  • not intended to use up much, if any, of my collecting budget (in other words I’m open to donations!); and
  • may or may not remain as a part of my collection in the long-term.

So here you have it, the first Want List Wednesday checklist on the bbbros.ca blog!

If you have anything from the list below, please get in touch by leaving a comment below, emailing me at bb_bros@hotmail.com or by connecting with me on Facebook and Twitter.

In addition, if you have a want list of your own, feel free to let me and other readers know!

Finally, if you would like to receive automatic updates every Wednesday and Sunday when I post a new article here at the bbbros.ca blog, just click the “Sign Me Up!” button in the right column or subscribe via my RSS feed.

Until Sunday, all the best in your collecting pursuits!

Ryan
