November Want List Wednesday

November 2, 2011

As I wrote on Sunday, October was something of a mixed bag when it comes to the “business” side of my hobby.  Good things mixed with (potentially) not so good.  Fairly significant advances in some areas, minor advances in others.

The same can be said when it comes to making additions to my collection.  As you may have seen in my October Project Progress Report, I wasn’t able to add a whole lot to my priority collecting projects over the course of the month.

Five cards were the sum total of additions for the month.  Five measly cards.

That’s the not so good/minor advances end of things.  The good news end of things comes with today’s post.

One thing that I did not mention in my article about my first local card shop trade day experience is that although the trip to the shop was fruitless when it came to making trades, it was from that when it came to finding cards from the want list I feature here on the bbbros.ca blog on the first Wednesday of every month.

While I was floating around the store taking in as much as I could about what I need to do to be a successful trader again, I took a few minutes to dig through some boxes of singles, knowing that I was likely to get anything I could find at a relatively minor expense.

I am happy to report that after only a few minutes of searching through the store owner’s singles boxes I made sure that this month’s Want List Wednesday article would have some degree of success to report upon.

Unlike last month when I the only additions involved in the article were to the want list itself, this month I was actually able to make some additions to the sets I am working on finishing off.

At this point I’m still undecided as to whether my intention will be to add the completed sets to my collection or to one day post them for sale in my eBay Store, but regardless they give me yet another thing to work towards, another group of goals to achieve.

All told, I brought in 30 cards that were formerly on the want list shown at the bottom of this article; 29 from my trip to the card store and one that just happened to be included as a “bonus” with an order I placed on eBay.

I’ve never been a big fan of sellers including common base set singles as a “bonus” with an order, but when one of those cards is one that I can cross off my want list then I don’t mind nearly as much!

As a result of the additions my 05-06 Upper Deck MVP set (without the rookie cards) is now complete, “Set 1” of 06-07 Flair Showcase has been reduced to a single card still needed, the 07-08 Fleer Hot Prospects list is down to just three cards, and a solitary removal from the 08-09 O-Pee-Chee base set list has been made.  All for less than seventeen cents per card.

What remains in the want list – thankfully with no new additions this month – can be found below and once again, I will now make my monthly call for some help in reducing this list even further.

As usual I’d like to emphasize that finishing these sets is of much less importance than the priority projects seen in my monthly Project Progress Report posts and as such I would prefer to add these cards via the trade (or donation!) route as opposed to having to invest much in the way of cash.

I have thousands of cards to draw upon in order to get some swaps done, so if you have something I need and have a want list of your own, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.  Send me what you have and/or need by emailing bb_bros@hotmail.com, posting a comment, or connecting with me on Facebook and Twitter.

Finally, if you feel so inclined, I would love to continue to build upon my blog subscriber list. Until Sunday, all the best in your collecting pursuits!
